⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the first book of a series called My Vampires! My Roommate is a Vampire is marketed as a romance. Cassie Greenberg is a broke artist in her thirties who lives in Chicago. On the verge of eviction Cassie responds to an ad for an apartment that is only $200 a month. The apartment is big, beautiful and sounds too good to be true and to make things worse her roomate Frederick is really attractive. Cassie is shocked when things seem to be going good, that is until she finds bags of blood in the fridge.
Cassie struggles with the existence of the paranormal. Even after the protagonist discovers that vampires exist her main problem is how to deal with the feelings she has for her roommate. We can see that the story is character driven more than is plot driven. Although we see some messages, letters and diary entries from Frederick, we follow the story from Cassie’s point of view. The author sets a fun quirky mood in this book.
My overall opinion
This was an out of comfort fun read for me. The story was refreshing but I found the pace to be incredibly slow ,but the resolution and ending was really quick. They tried to make Cassie a relatable character but I couldn’t relate to it. Frederick’s character was funny. I did like the feel of the rom-com but personally I think the spicy scenes took away from it . The final chapters were a little ridiculous and underwhelming. One thing I really enjoyed were the chapters of the text messages and letters ,they were refreshing for the storyline.
Who would enjoy this book?
If you enjoy light reads, paranormal romance or you simply are a fan of vampires, this might be your next read. Read this if you want a quick simple read. Beware that the book has vampire in the title but it is not heavy on the vampire topic, if you are looking for that this might not be the book for you. This book contains elements of fantasy, comedy and romance.
