14 Ways to Die by Vincent Ralph

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jess is a 17 year-old- whose mom was murdered 10 years ago. Her mom was the first victim to the now serial killer named the “Magpie Man.” The protagonist feels let down by justice and in need of  closure. Jess gets the opportunity to be in a YouTube show, which she hopes to use to lure the killer out and uncover his identity.

The heroine is strong and resilient, yet emotionally broken from the loss of her mother. She is determined to get justice for her mother and the other victims. Jess hopes that once she catches the killer it will bring her some peace and maybe improve her home life with her dad. The story is narrated from Jesse’s point of view and in intense short chapters. The author creates a tense atmosphere in this young adult mystery.

My overall opinion

I really enjoyed the author’s writing and the short chapters. This book was fast paced and it had interesting characters that kept me hooked. I couldn’t put it down and it was almost a five star read for me. However, the final chapter didn’t quite deliver and I think some characters were underdeveloped.  I would like to read more of this author in the future. I think the book had similar vibes to “A good girl’s guide to murder.”

Who would enjoy this book?

Readers who enjoy fast paced reads, strong female leads and young adult mysteries should definitely read this one. This book explores themes of grief, loss, revenge, resilience and hope. Trigger warnings include; stalking, violence, murder and attempted suicide.
